C&C much appreciated!
This is a traditional piece done in gouache. It took about 12 hours and is about 15 inches by 30 inches. Download for full size. the size is daunting...probably because of my camera
The things used to compose this creature was a lava lamp, electronic balance (for the face), spoons, wires, scrap metal, and a large almond-like nut.
Story of creation:
When I was thinking of ideas of what exactly was the creature i wanted to create, i knew immediantly that it should be the comic relief. Therefore this creature was based off of a frog, useless and fragile with it's only good quality is it's wires that is used to snatch things. I thought that its original purpose was to be a type of "spy" robot that sneaks up on the enemy and snatches its weapon away. This character, however, was faulty at creation and utterly useless. Its broken wires destroyed everything it swallowed, the lava lamp gives away its position eliminating its purpose as a "spy" and the screen no longer functions.
Although it is mechanically made with a purpose to destroy, somehow this creature never was programmed correctly. it thinks it is a real frog, bathing itself in puddles of oil and waste. It has an obsession with shiny things and will swallow, throw up, or chew up anything it can fit into its mouth. i thought that if it were to be in the actual movie, it would make people laugh by accidentally causing havock amongst the antagonist and protagonist alike.
